Creating a Neighbourhood Songbird Habitat

Presentation and Workshop for Nature and Bird Enthusiasts

Join master naturalist, Laura Thomas for an engaging presentation and discussion about restoring songbird habitat in our yards and neighbourhoods.

Look at our neighbourhoods from a songbird’s point of view, considering what they need to survive and thrive in our shared landscapes. Understand how you can design your yard to attract native songbirds throughout the seasons.

During the program you’ll develop your knowledge of the relationships between native flora and songbirds, finding inspiration for your own garden and community.  The presentation and discussion will be led by certified master naturalist and native plant propagator, Laura Thomas, director for the Muskoka Conservancy and principal of the ecological landscaping company and native plant nursery, Hidden Habitat.

Before you come: Walk your own property, take some pictures, make some sketches, and list the types of trees, shrubs, and other plants that your land currently supports. You might consider what your neighbours are growing as well.

More about our speaker:

Laura Thomas is a conservation-driven landscape professional, native plant grower, and advocate for ecological restoration in Ontario. A graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Environment and Resource Studies program, Laura brings more than fifteen years of experience in the landscape and restoration sector, working at the intersection of ecological function and thoughtful design. Her work demonstrates that beautiful landscapes and healthy ecosystems are not mutually exclusive, but inherently connected.
